In this video, Betty’s husband, Rick, and 4-year-old grandson,Carter, carve this year’s Jack O’Lantern. The pumpkin was obtained on our recent field trip to Evans Orchard in Georgetown, Kentucky. Carter chose the theme of the Jack O’Lantern to be Darth Vader from the Star Wars movie. Rick gives information about choosing a pattern and transferring it to a pumpkin. He also explains the use of a chisel (or knife) to carve in bas relief style, leaving no holes but parts of the pumpkin that are thinner than others, allowing light to shine through and form a scene. We had a lot of fun on carving day, and Carter was very pleased with his Darth Vader Jack O’Lantern!
